Let's see what's holding you back...
So what exactly is clutter? The best definition I heard came from an awesome book called “Don't be a Slave to Housework” by Pam McClellan (goofy title, I know, but it's actually a great book):
anything that doesn't enhance your life on a regular basis.
Read that again.
Now look around the room you're in right now, and think about it. Remember: the less stuff you have, the less you and your kids have to clean or clean around.
So what is holding you back from getting rid of stuff? Here are the top four excuses:
- 1. My relative/friend gave it to me and I would feel guilty
- 2. I've had it since I was a kid or It reminds me about a special time
- 3. I might need it someday
- 4. It was such a bargain
Now replace the word “it” with the word “clutter” and read those excuses again.
When I do this little exercise, it starts to seem a little silly to agonize over something I don't even want...
answer each of those excuses one by one
