Organized Mom-Zine

July 2011

Welcome to the July issue of the Organized Mom-Zine bringing you tips and support to help you get your family organized.

If you like this e-zine, please do a friend (and me!) a big favor and “pay if forward!” If a friend did forward this to you and you like what you read, please subscribe today!

We are in the dog days of summer! If your family is like mine, chores and other routines start to fall apart this time of year. Kids are outside playing much later, there is less structure to the day, and kids want to do less work. It's up to you to maintain the momentum you've started already.

I'm dedicating this issue to STAYING MOTIVATED!

Okay, let's go back to basics. Remember that routines can be daily, weekly, monthly, seasonal, you name it, but the key to success is consistency. I know you already know that, but review these six reminders about consistency if things have started to slide a little.

How about sibling fighting? Are my kids the only ones who fight World War III on a daily basis on these unstructured summer days? Now is the time to scale back your reward chart to include just the bare bones basics.

At the end of the day, you can review the most important items. This is what I have on my kids' reward charts right now:
  • did I do my morning chores?
  • did I provoke my brothers?
  • did I control my anger?
  • did I do my evening chores?
That's it. If I myself had a reward chart, my kids would probably include "did I control my anger?" on it, too.

Summertime is often more flexible in many families, so why not use that time to teach your kids how to cook? In the beginning it does take some time, but it is SO worth it! I've got my kids cooking four days out of the week. Not cooking dinner is the best way I can think of to spend my summer!

Here's a bonus article: if you are planning to travel this summer, don't leave without reading this family car trip survival guide. Plan a family road trip and have fun!

Okay, folks, thanks for reading, and please write us with any feedback, suggestions or content requests! Just reply to this e-zine and tell me what you think...
